Oasis of Hope Hospital was founded in 1963 in Tijuana, Mexico, by Dr. Ernesto Contreras, recognized as the pioneer in holistic medicine in the 20th century, and is now operated by his son, Dr. Francisco Contreras, an oncologist.

Dr. Francisco Contreras

Dr. Contreras specialized in surgical oncology at the University Hospital in Vienna, Austria and in alternative therapies at the Oasis of Hope Hospital, receiving personal instruction from Ernesto Contreras, M.D. He is a recognized authority on conventional and alternative cancer therapies and health issues, and is committed to improving the quality of the physical, mental, and spiritual lives of people around the world.

Dr. Jorge Barroso

Dr. Jorge Barroso has been the Director of Research and Development at Oasis of Hope Hospital Health Group since 1998. In 1975, he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Science in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, and entered the School of Medicine at Universidad Autonoma of Baja California, Mexico in 1976 where he received his Medicinae Doctor (Doctor of Medicine) degree.

Dr. Barroso also received a Philosophiae Doctor (Doctor of Philosophy) degree in Engineering Science – Bioengineering from the University of California in San Diego, and was a researcher in Bioengineering at the Department of AMES – Bioengineering at the University of California at La Jolla, California where he received a Postdoctoral Fellow in Bioengineering.

Further, Dr. Barroso has held several positions as Environmental Advisor for prestigious companies including St. John’s Knits and Sanifill, Inc. He held the position of General Director of Environmental Protection for the state of Baja California, Mexico, and later was the Coordinator for Environmental Protection.

Finally, Dr. Barroso has presented numerous works in congresses and meetings in Mexico, the United States, Italy, and Japan, and has collaborated on publications in prestigious medical journals.
